Lagos Bread Vendor Stabbed Man To Death Over N50 Bread

A 28-year-old man, Ajayi Peters, aka Ajana, has been stabbed to death in the Yaba area of Lagos State after a disagreement over N50 loaf of bread.

PUNCH reports:
Peters was killed by a bread vendor, identified simply as Yinka, aka Buredi. Peters had tried to prevail on Yinka after he refused to sell a loaf to one of his customers on credit. An argument between the men and in the ensuing scuffle, Peters grabbed a knife and stabbed the deceased in the head.

70-Year-Old Woman Cuts Her Throat With Razor Blade; Eventually Died In Kwara State

A 70-year old woman, Mrs. Saratu Rahman, aka Iya Ogbomoso, from Offa, in the Offa LGA of Kwara State, has killed herself with a razor blade, PUNCH report. PUNCH gathered on Monday that the woman, a mother of four, cut her throat with the razor blade.

A neighbour, who identified herself simply as Yetunde, said when she and other neighbours heard Rahman screamed, they rushed to her room and saw her in a pool of blood.

‘Abducted’ Former FUTA VC, Professor Albert Ilemobade, Found Dead In His House

The dead body of a former Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Albert Ilemobade, who was said to have been kidnapped, has been found in his house at Ijapo in Akure, Ondo State capital on Sunday [Jun 28] morning.

According to a family source, Professor Ilemobade’s driver and gateman killed the former University Don in his house and made away with his Toyota SUV.

Militants Won’t Return To Creeks Over Cancelled Contracts – Ex Militant Boyloaf

Former militant leader, Ebikabowei Victor-Ben, popularly known as ‘General’ Boyloaf, has said no youth in the Niger Delta would go into the creeks should the Federal Government revoke pipeline surveillance contracts awarded to ex-agitators in the region.

Boyloaf, who is one of the beneficiaries of the government’s pipeline protection contract, told PUNCH in a telephone interview that since the Federal Government had declared amnesty, it would be a wrong decision for any person to go into the creeks with the intent of blowing up pipelines and other oil installations. He assured the Federal Government that no Niger Delta youth would get violent as long as the government did not hurt them. He maintained that the people of the oil-rich region were not known for blowing up pipelines.

In order to ensure organised drug distribution system in the country, the federal government will on July 1 commence the implementation of the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDGs).

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, Linus Awute, stated this yesterday at a press conference in Abuja adding that regulatory agencies like the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and NAFDAC will on that date resume the exercise of their mandate to ensure full compliance.

Police In Plateau State Arrest Man For Cutting Off Daughter’s Finger

Men of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man for cutting off his daughter’s finger on allegation that she stole his money. The man, identified as Surulere Raphael, was paraded on Friday [Jun 26] at the police headquarters alongside one Ponjue Domsing, who was alleged to have killed his father, Mr. Domsing, for not buying him a motorcycle as promised.

Speaking to journalists, Raphael said he cut off his daughter’s finger because she stole his N1,500 and meat from her mother’s pot of soup. The girl’s severed finger has, however, been recovered as an exhibit, while the girl is being treated in the hospital.

Truck Crushes Nine To Death In Nasarawa

No fewer than nine persons were crushed to death on Thursday night when a sand-laden truck crashed into a mini-bus at Gora village in Nasarawa State.

Four other surviving victims of the accident have been hospitalised.

Some eye witnesses blamed the incident on the truck’s brake failure.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Umaru Ismaila, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The incident was reported to the police on Thursday night that truck carrying sharp sand rammed into a vehicle and killed nine people on board.”

The directive to this effect was conveyed in a letter signed today, Friday, 26th June, 2015 by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi.  In it, the President thanked members of the dissolved board for their services to the nation.

4 Men In Lagos Court Over Rape Of 16-Year-Old Girl

Four men who allegedly gang-raped a 16-year-old girl were, on Thursday [Jun 25], arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos State. The accused - Lekan Jimoh, 25; Tunde Ajayi, 20; Taiwo Awoniyi, 23, and Ojo Olayisoye, 18, are facing a charge of rape.

The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 12 at Egan-Igando in Lagos. Anyanwu said that the victim's mother sent her on an errand with N3,000.

Lagos State Govt Issues 21-Day Ultimatum To Okada Riders To Leave Restricted Routes

Lagos State Government has given motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada riders, a 21-day ultimatum to leave restricted routes. The government met with okada unions on Thursday [Jun 25] at the state secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, where the ultimatum was given.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Tunji Bello, who chaired the meeting, said the government decided to give the riders 21-day ultimatum for the unions to sensitise their members to vacate the restricted routes before enforcement would begin.

The City of London’s costliest rogue trader has been freed from prison almost halfway through a seven-year sentence for Britain’s biggest fraud. Kweku Adoboli lost UBS £1.5bn with illicit trades that he concealed from superiors and was sentenced in November 2012. He was released from Maidstone prison in Kent last week.

He had spent almost nine months in custody before trial, so the total time he spent behind bars amounted to close to half his sentence. Adoboli was a relatively junior trader at UBS, but the prosecution told his trial that at one point his losses were more than £7bn – enough to cause the collapse of Switzerland’s largest bank.

Jackson, 50, was released from the Volunteers of America halfway house shortly before 9 a.m. EDT and left in one of two black SUVs that were there for him. Jackson, an Illinois Democrat, moved into the halfway house from prison, where he was serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence for spending $750,000 in campaign money on personal items.

The police in Ogun State have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Funmilayo Tijani, who allegedly stabbed her two-year-old son, Emmanuel, to death in the Sango Ota area of the state.

PUNCH reports:
Funmilayo, a fashion designer, and her husband, identified simply as John, separated two years ago as a result of a quarrel. Funmilayo had returned to stay in her father’s apartment with her only child after the separation.
