Man Bags 51 Years Imprisonment For Stealing N14 Million In Ekiti State

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday [Mar. 31] sentenced one Taiwo Ojo to 51 years imprison for stealing N14 million belonging to the Traditional Council of Obas.

The state counsel, Mr Akintayo Arogundade, told the court that the accused committed the offence in Sept. 2008 and April 2009 at Ilawe-Ekiti. He said the accused was facing a 12 count-charge bordering on stealing, cheating, forgery and fraud.

Native Doctor Collected N.51Million From 3 Applicants To Prepare “Charm’’ To Aid Their Enlistment In Nigerian Army

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), three applicants on Monday [Mar. 31] told a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State that a native doctor, Abdul Idris, collected N510,000 from them to enlist them in the Nigerian Army.

Idris is standing trial on a one-count charge of cheating. At the case’s hearing on Monday, the accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000.

SAMBISA FOREST: Defence HQ Confirms 2 Soldiers Killed, 6 Missing In A Clash Between Military and Boko Haram Insurgents

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, has confirmed the death of two soldiers with six others missing in a clash between the Special Forces and the insurgents between Friday [Mar. 28] and Saturday [Mar. 29].

Olukolade said that most of the 20 soldiers who were reported missing in the latest battle at the Sambisa forest had returned to base and were already participating in the mission.

Gov Babatunde Fashola Writes Ghana Over Killing Of A Nigerian Student

Gov. Babatunde Fashola
Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Monday [Mar. 31] said he had e-mailed the Ghanaian Parliament, requesting it to investigate the recent killing of a Nigerian student in that country.

The governor made the statement in Ikeja, while addressing some students who had come to protest against the hike in Lagos State University fees. The governor said the killing of the student was unfortunate, adding that the case must not be allowed to be swept under the carpet.

Police Sergeant Detained In Lagos For Losing Bereta Pistol, Loaded With Eight Rounds Of Ammunitions

The Police have ordered the arrest and detention of a Sergeant who lost his pistol while clubbing in Lagos. The policeman, identified as sergeant Tokunbo, is attached to Area F, Police Command, Ikeja.

But the Police spokesperson in Lagos, Ngozi Braide, denied the allegation that the policeman was clubbing. She said he had gone to visit a friend in Igando and left his pistol inside his car which he parked outside; adding that before he came out the car was stolen.

A married Zimbabwean man who broke his girlfriend's virginity and later reneged on his promise to marry her was last Monday [Mar. 24] ordered to pay $1,800 for seduction and breach of promise charges.

A Zimbabwean magistrate, Marehwanazvo Gofa, made the landmark ruling after it found Matthew Simango guilty of failing to honour his promise to marry the woman who could not be named to protect her dignity.

Wedding Party 18-Seater Bus Crashes; Kills 7 Members Of The Bride’s Family In Jos

An 18-seater bus conveying people to a wedding in Jos crashed yesterday [Mar. 30] along the Wamba-Fadan Karshi road, killing seven people. Many others were injured.

Sources close to the victims said the accident occurred when the Hilux bus conveying family members of the bride from Wamba, Nasarawa State, to Jos lost control and rammed into an oncoming vehicle.

Lagos Court Jails Man Two Years For Stealing Mobile Phones and Sum Of N22,000

A 22-year-old man, Abdularamoni Jamiu has been sentenced to two years in prison with hard labour, by an Ebute Meta court after he pleaded guilty to the offence of stealing. The convict, who had no fixed address, was arraigned on three counts.

He was convicted on one of the charges – stealing a BlackBerry phone, a Nokia phone and the sum of N22, 000 – from one Zuliat Ojubanire.

The police said the incident happened on March 15, 2014, while the victim was waiting to join a vehicle to her office, at Costain Round-About, Surulere, Lagos State. It was learnt that Jamiu was among 12 hoodlums who attacked the victim and others in the area around 5am.

2 Million Nigerians Live In Cote D’ Ivoire; 80% Of Them From Ejigbo Town In Osun State, Only 63 Nigerians Are In Prison - Says Envoy

The Nigerian Ambassador to Cote d’ Ivoire, Mrs Ifeoma Akabogu has disclosed that only about 63 Nigerians are presently serving jail terms in the country’s prisons. She spoke on the sidelines of the 44th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’ Ivoire.

Explaining that about two million Nigerian live in the country, she said that they are fairly well behaved and peaceful and law abiding.

The church is the greatest institution that has made the country today. If you look back, you would find out that the church brought education to Nigeria. The church brought hospital to Nigeria. I think the church should be given credit for that. People don’t understand what they say about the church milking the poor.

I think it is working because all we have to do is look back to when the state of emergency had not been declared. We were all aware that Boko Haram had taken more than half of all the local government areas in Borno State, literally. In fact, it had brought down the Nigerian flag and hoisted its own flag in those local government areas. The governor of Borno State was governing less than half of the state before the state of emergency. But today, at least you can say he is the governor of the whole state.

38-Year-Old Civil Servant Seeks Divorce Over Wife’s HIV Status; 7 Years After Their Marriage

A 38-year-old civil servant, Silas Dodo, has prayed an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve his marriage with his wife because she is HIV-positive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dodo told the court on Tuesday [Mar. 25] that he wanted to divorce the 35-year-old wife he married in 2007. Dodo told the court that his wife was found to be HIV-positive following a recent test they had.

JTF Arrests 2 Britons, 12 Nigerians For Illegal Bunkering

Operatives of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta code named Operation Pulo Shield have arrested two Britons and 12 Nigerian technicians over their alleged involvement in illegal bunkering along the Chanomi Creek in the western delta.

The suspects were said to have   offered the operatives of the JTF the sum of $66,500, to create safe passage for them to siphon crude oil into their barges from a Shell Petroleum Development Company pipeline along the Chanomi creek in Delta State.   But the offer was rejected.

A fugitive conman from Wembley who was on the run for almost 10 years after duping an elderly woman into giving him cash by posing as a foreign diplomat has been arrested at Heathrow Airport this morning [Mar. 28].

Anthony Ekwueme, 42, of Monks Park, swindled his victim after promising to give her £18m if she handed him £3,000. He fled the country ahead of his trial in December 2006 for conspiracy to defraud and was subsequently convicted and jailed for four years in his absence.
