TALKING TOUGH: I Will Wipe Out Boko Haram Before May 29 – President Jonathan

Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan is talking tough as he pledges to handover a terrorist free country to the President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. 

Mr. Jonathan made this known in Abuja on Thursday [April 30] while receiving a delegation of Heads of Customs from the West and Central African Region of the World Customs Organisation led by the Secretary-General of the organisation, Dr Kunio Mikuriya.

Two men, Gabriel Obi and Ugwu Geofrey, have been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly importing 110 kilogrammes of cocaine. The accused were arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on two counts bordering on drug trafficking.

Rescued 298 Girls and Women Undergo Pregnancy, HIV Tests


The military authorities have taken the 293 women and girls rescued by the Special Forces during a raid on the dreaded Sambisa Forest to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State. An intelligence officer, who made this known to PUNCH on Wednesday [April 29], also said the women and girls were   undergoing a series of tests, including pregnancy and HIV in the hospital.

Nigeria government on Wednesday [April 29] expressed "deep disappointment" at the execution by firing squad of four of its citizens for drugs offenses in Indonesia and offered its condolences to the men's families.

"The Federal Government of Nigeria has received with deep disappointment news of the execution of four Nigerians, Messrs Martin Anderson, Okwudili Oyatanze, Jamiu Abashin and Sylvester Obiekwe by the government of Indonesia for drug-related offenses," a statement read.

In the still night air of Nusakambangan island, eight condemned prisoners joined together in a chorus of Amazing Grace just after midnight, before their song was cut off by the crack of gunfire. As details began to emerge of the final minutes of the group, which included the Bali 9 pair Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, it was revealed all eight prisoners rebuffed offers of blindfolds, opting instead to stare at their executioners while they broke out in song.

Nigerian Army has said it has rescued 200 girls and 93 women during a military operation in the Sambisa Forest Tuesday [April 28] afternoon after destroying three Boko Haram camps.

On its twitter feed, the Nigerian Armed Forces said it was unable to confirm if the schoolgirls kidnapped last year in Chibok are among those rescued.

Two Australian drug smugglers set to be executed by firing squad in Indonesia have entered their final hours - with their families collapsing in tears as they said their goodbyes. Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are expected to be executed at around midnight on the Indonesian island of Nusakambangan - 5pm UK time - and were visited by their emotional families in prison today.

The relatives were mobbed by journalists as they arrived at the prison, with the sister of Sukumaran collapsing and needing to be carried.

NNPC Audit Report Exposes Double Subsidy Payments

Price Waterhouse Coopers, the firm of forensic auditors hired by the Federal Government to probe the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has indicted the corporation of making double subsidy claims on petrol and kerosene. “Our examination of the PMS and DPK import verified by PPPRA revealed that some discharges were apparently verified and subsidy advised to NNPC more than once,” the report stated.

The Presidency on Monday [April 27] said it was not true that Nigeria recalled its envoy in South Africa on account of recent xenophobic attacks in that country. Briefing State House correspondents, Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, said there was a mix-up and misinformation on the matter.


The truth is that Nigeria has not recalled its envoy from South Africa. What has been done is to invite the Charge De Affairs in that country for routine consultation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Recall of envoy is a serious and sensitive matter; that has not happened," Abati stressed.

An Akwa Ibom State High Court has convicted and sentenced a former commissioner, representing Akwa Ibom State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Pastor Godwin Eyo, to three years imprisonment. Eyo was accused of stealing 56 transformers meant for oil producing communities in the state.
The accused was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on 56 counts bordering on stealing and conversion of 56 electricity transformers released to him by NDDC for distribution to communities in Akwa Ibom State.

An explosion has occurred at the Nigerian Army’s 3rd Armoured Division barracks at Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The explosion happened at about 9:45 a.m today [April 25], witnesses say.

Casualty figures are unknown and the military and police authorities are yet to make any statements.

The explosion, most probably from a bomb, adds to the number of bomb attacks in the city in recent time. An explosion at a bus park killed 13 people and injured another 14 in February 2015.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's daughter North is now a member of the Armenian Apostolic Church - the oldest national church in the world - after being baptised in a traditional ceremony. The baptism took place following the famous family's recent visit to Kim's homeland Armenia, which saw them take a pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the 22-month-old's special ceremony.

The West African insurgent group, Boko Haram, on Wednesday [April 22] released new pictures, the first since pledging allegiance to ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The pictures, which were taken in an unknown location in what is supposedly a part of Northern Nigeria, depicts the jihadists posing in front of the terror group’s sinister black and white flag while brandishing assault rifles.
