Jacob Nwachukwu from Abala in Obingwa LGA of Abia State has cut off his wife’s left hand over allegation of infidelity. The man’s wife, Mrs Nwadiokeonu Nwachukwu, is now at a hospital in Aba, while her severed hand had been taken to her husband’s village at Abala for burial.

The incident happened, Monday, at Ogbor Hill Area of Aba, where the woman had lived for years, while the husband lived at their Abala village. A female co-tenant of Mrs Nwachukwu, who craved anonymity, told Vanguard that the couple had lived in the city for years before the husband lost his job and had to relocate to the village, leaving his wife, a trader, in the city.

A middle-aged man, identified as Chucks from Imo State, has died after consuming 20 sachets of gin in a N500 bet with a woman. The deceased, said to be a barber, is married with a child and lived along Ngwa Road area of Aba, Abia State.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the deceased had on the fateful day, gone to a nearby local shop situated within the area to take a sachet of his usual brand of gin and boasted to the shop owner that he could finish 20 sachets of the drink.

A 41-day-old baby, Zainab Olajide, has died after she was allegedly poisoned by her father, Kazeem Olajide, in a desperate attempt to divorce his wife. The incident happened at about 7am on Friday at Toluwalase Estate, Ijoko-Abule, in the Lemode area of Ogun State.

The baby’s mother, Abosede Ogundare, had left Zainab with Kazeem to sweep the compound only to come back and met the baby with foams gushing out from her mouth. Ogundare alerted neighbours to the incident having found a bottle containing pesticide with her husband.

Curoe, 40, appearing at at Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday, was was told by judge Liam McNally: 'It is now time for these messages to stop'. He imposed a restraining order stopping her or anyone she knows posting messages about Mr McAleese or Ms Hegarty on social media so all three parties could get on with their lives. But the judge did throw out charges that Curoe had sent 'menacing' messages on Facebook, saying although she sent them he did not consider them threatening.

These are the horrific scenes after a mass slaughter of 250 whales in the Faroe Islands. The pods of pilot whales were rounded up by fisherman on motorboats and chased inland to where hundreds of villagers were waiting to hack them to death.

As many as 40 African migrants have reportedly drowned off the Libyan coast after their over crowded inflatable boat capsized and sank. Another 90 migrants managed to survive the perilous journey across the Mediterranean sea and were rescued by a German naval vessel, who took them to the Sicilian harbour of Augusta.

It is believed the sunken boat had as many as 140 migrants on board. One survivor recalled how the boat started taking in water and the weak rubber began to deteriorate as the boat sunk.

A Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja has sen­tenced a police corporal, Abang Okon, to six years imprisonment for unlaw­ful killing of one Olalekan Ajayi . Justice Sedoten Ogun­sanya imposed the jail term on Okon after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge preferred against him.

Okon was arraigned be­fore Justice Ogunsanya on April 1, for shooting Ajayi to death at the Ladeja area of Ikorodu in the state. The defendant, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge, later agreed to a plea bargain with the prosecution.

Yinka Odumakin Says, ‘Don’t Criticise President Buhari Yet’

A human rights activist, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, on Wednesday [Jul 22] admonished Nigerians to avoid unnecessary criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration but support him to deliver on its promises. The national publicity secretary of Afenifere, who stated this in an interview with journalists in Osogbo, Osun State capital, stressed that even 100 days was not enough to assess the present administration’s performance.

Court Stops LASG From Arresting, Prosecuting Synagogue Engineers


A Federal High Court in Lagos Wednesday [Jul 22] temporarily restrained the Lagos State Government from implementing the recommendations of Coroner Inquest which ordered the criminal prosecution of two structural engineers for the September 12, 2014 building collapse at Synagogue Church of All Nations which claimed about 116 lives.
The sad event occurred at the headquarters of the church in Ikotun area of Lagos September 2014.

Leahy Law Hindering Fight Against Boko Haram – President Buhari



President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday [Jul 22] said the US Leahy Law “aided and abetted” the campaign of bloodletting by Boko Haram. The Leahy Law prohibits the US Department of State and Department of Defence from providing military assistance to foreign military units that violate human rights with impunity. It is named after its principal sponsor Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont.
