3 Child Suicide Bombers Kill 6 In Nigeria's Northeast - Nigerian Army

According to AP:

Three young suicide bombers set off explosions that killed six others and injured at least 24 people in Nigeria's northeastern Borno state, a Nigerian army spokesman said Monday.

The attack Sunday in Benisheikh came as Nigeria's army launched an operation against two Boko Haram camps in the state that killed at least 12 militants, said army spokesman Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman.

A 26-year-old man, Taiwo Oluwatobi, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly luring his Facebook lover to his house, and raping her. PUNCH Metro learnt that Oluwatobi had met the 24-year-old victim, identified only as Temitope, on Facebook. He had allegedly lured her to his house in the Alagomeji, Yaba area of the state to collect N15,000, during which he raped her.

According to Tribune Online, the incident occurred at a rail line around Zango area of the metropolis. It was also gathered that the moving train crushed the two people while trying to rush out of the taxi cab that was parked on the rail line.

PDP Governors Kick Against Plan To Sack 1,000 NNPC Workers

Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) which has vowed to resist the planned layoff of over 1,000 employees of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Accusing the Federal Government of embarking on 'shadowy restructuring' of the NNPC, the forum said in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Onaiwu Osaro in Abuja on Sunday, that the plan to sack the over 1,000 employees according to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was based on a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari.

For the alleged killers of the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, freedom came on Thursday as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja discharged them. The homebound officers — Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) J. B Abang, ACP Akera, ACP Adamu Buba, CSP Mohammed Ahmadu and Sergeant Adamu Gado, first to fifth defendants respectively — were discharged by Justice Evoh Chukwu, following a no-case submission filed on their behalf by their counsel, Paul Erokoro (SAN), for the first to fourth suspects, and Mr. Eddie Inegedu, who represented the fifth suspect.

Boko Haram Is Planning Another Mass Abduction Of School Pupils, Foreigners, Etc – Says Nigerian Govt

The federal government on Friday [Dec. 18] raised an alarm that Boko Haram terrorists operating in the northeast are planning to abduct school pupils, students or foreigners in a desperate effort to raise funds, through ransom, for food, medical and arms supply.

The terrorists had in April 2014 abducted over 200 school girls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, and the girls are still in captivity.

The National President of SSANU, Mr. Samson Ugwoke, said during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday [Dec. 18] that the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, and the National Universities Commission had written letters of termination to 2,000 members of staff of the universities.

INTERNET FRAUD: 19-Year-Old Chukwudi Oludiniwa In Court For Hacking Into UBA Accounts, Stealing N850,000

A 19-year-old, Chukwudi Oludiniwa, on Thursday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly hacking into two bank accounts, stealing N850,000. He is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Francisca Okere, the accused and one other at large committed the offences on Dec. 15. She said that the accused and his accomplice hacked into a United Bank of Africa (UBA) account with number 1013439509 and transferred N350,000 into Oludiniwa’s account. The prosecutor said that the accused also stole the sum of N500,000 from one Mr Idahosa Agbeyi’s UBA account number 1013428509.

$3.9 BILLION FINE: MTN Refuses To Pay Fine, Challenges NCC In Court

According to Vanguard, South African telecoms giant MTN said Thursday [Dec. 17] it would launch a court challenge against the $3.9 billion fine that Nigeria has ordered it to pay by December 31 for failing to disconnect unregistered users.

MTN, in a statement to shareholders today, said it decided to take this route after exhausting all other options to have the fine reduced.

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has given eight companies licences to generate 1,648.25 megawatts of power and also a licence to a distribution company to distribute power. In a statement in Abuja, on Thursday [Dec. 17], Dr Usman Arabi, Head, Public Affairs Department of NERC, said the licences were three categories of embedded generation (55mw), two off–grid generation (525mw) and six on-grid generation (1,588mw).

41 Police Officers Dead, Several Injured In Bus Accident

At least 41 Argentine police officers were killed Monday [Dec. 14] morning when a bus fell off the side of a bridge near the city of Salta in northern Argentina. The Salta Civil Defense Authority confirmed to NBC News that another six officers were seriously injured and the rest had minor injuries. The bus was carrying 51 gendarmes, the national police force that patrols Argentina's border regions.

Nigerian Government, on Monday, issued automatic employment letters to 173 ex-corps members into the federal civil service for distinguishing themselves during their service at the primary assignment. Among those given the employment were nine physycally-challenged people, Nigerian Tribune reports.

Nigeria have become the first African side to book their ticket to the 2016 Men's Olympic Football Tournament in Rio de Janeiro, after their CAF Africa U-23 Cup of Nations semi-final win against Senegal, FiFa.com has reported.

The 1996 Gold Medal winners emerged victorious thanks to a 1-0 result​, with ​Nigeria captain Otebo Oghenekaro scoring in the 76th minute from the penalty spot.​ A missed penalty just before the break by Senegal's Ibrahima Keita kept the tie goalless going into the second half and it remained a tense affair all the way to the final whistle with Oghenekaro's finish from 12 yards the only separation between the two sides.

Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) yesterday [Dec. 7] posited that the institution would no longer make provision in its employment for any first class graduate from the school again.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared All Progressives Congress candidate Alh. Yahaya Bello, as the winner of the Kogi governorship poll.

APC polled 247,752 votes to defeat PDP who came second with 204,877 votes. In the supplementary poll, APC polled 6885 votes to beat PDP which polled 5363 votes.

TRAGIC PICTURE: This Man Commits Suicide By Hanging In Lagos


A 28-year-old man in Festac Town, Lagos has committed suicide by hanging himself inside his shop at 6, Oyinlola Market, 23 road, have confirmed.

David Felix from Ora West, Edo State hung himself inside his block of shop wearing a vest of the Lord Chosen vest.

Traders close to him said he has been going through difficult times recently.

Police in Festac has confirmed the incident.

 






ALLEGED $2B ARMS DEAL SCAM: High Court Refuses AIT Chairman Raymond Dokpesi Bail

THE Federal High Court, Abuja Division, has refused the bail application of former Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who is being held over his alleged complicity in money laundering involving N2.1 billion meant for arms purchase. Instead, the court ordered Dokpesi’s counsel to put the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on notice to avail them the opportunity to appear before it on December 14, this year to show cause why Dokpesi, who has been in its custody for about a week, should not be granted conditional or unconditional bail.

Nicki Minaj’s Brother Charged With Raping A 12-Year-Old Girl

The brother of rapper Nicki Minaj has been charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl. Jelani Maraj, 37, is facing first degree rape charges and first degree course of sexual conduct with a child, sources close to Newsday said.

He was arrested on December 1, 2015 for the incident, which allegedly occurred on April 1, 2015. The Nassau County Correctional Centre have confirmed he was released on $100,000 bail bond and is due back in court on December 9.
